Intranet Service
Features - Currently, an Intranet provides the group manangement
services listed below - online, in real time, without HTML programming or FTP uploading. What's more, an Intranet can link with your existing group or club website, or it can stand alone as the only site for a group or club. Click here or on the image at right for a larger view of a static sceen shot of an Intranet. |
Calendar of Events - with daily, weekly, and monthly views, and - recurring event scheduling, a huge time saver for those weekly and monthly meetings!
Announcements - A place to post group announcements, changes, notices, etc. Members simply log in for the latest updates.
Document Sharing - Here's the place to post member photos, documents, results of events, archives, etc. Now group members don't have to rely on a single webmaster to have their own photos and shared information posted. They can do it themselves.
Discussion Baord - Post member questions and answers easily! This can save all kinds of time for group managers, and allows everyone to help everyone!
Instant Messaging - This can be just for fun, or it can allow for management, planning, and strategy meetings online, in real time!
Links Sharing - This section allows postings of important group links to other sites. Anyone who has ever managed a links page will appreciate the ease of use of this feature!
Personal Links - Individual members can have their own personal links list. This is great for members who make the group Intranet their browser start page, too! It elimantes the need to open and scroll through bookmarks or favorites.
Contact List - If you need to post the names and addresses of important vendors, suppliers, service providers, press contacts, etc. It saves those late evening phone calls from other group members looking for a phone number or email address!
Group List Management - Group members can update their own data records (name address phone, etc) and email address changes. This one speaks for itself! Just imagine, no more email that says, "Please change my email adress in the club database from blah blah..to blah blah! Now group members can make their own changes on the fly.
Broadcast and inter-group email - Imagine having an accessible, up-to-date group email list at all times that can be used on-the-fly. And the broadcast email service is a real time saver for those who have AOL accounts, with their limited size mailing lists. And no more requests to the list manager, asking for another member's email address.
Public Access Control - Your Intranet can only be accessed by someone who has the group access password. Your Intranet is not a public forum, unless you want to publish the access code through email or on a website! Notices of new members are emailed to administrators, for their review.
Member Access Control - The Intranet allows you to establish your own designated group administrators. Changes to each Intranet section can be allowed by all the group, or restricted to just administrators, depending upon the need and makeup of the group. Individual postings can be edited or deleted by the administrators. Members can be removed if they create problems or gained access inadvertently.
Here are just some of the
BENEFITS of a group or club Intranet:
Time- Savings - With an Intranet, all changes need not be the work of a single webmaster, who edits pages and then uploads them to a site. The webmaster saves time, and the group members save time.
Better Communication - Since group members no longer have to wait for a webmaster to make changes, they feel much more empowerd and directly involved in the group website. That means more member visits, and better communication throughout the group.
It's FREE! - There is no need to buy software, or have the group authorize monthly charges to a service provider.
It's Controlled - Access is restricted only to those you choose.
It's Professional - Any group, club, business, business association, or civic associaton can be proud to use these professional group management tools without embarassment. The interface follows established ease-of-use and visually appealing website practices. Unlike "community sites", Intranets are not intended to be chat rooms for social circles, with their "in-your-face" graphics.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Can our group have an Intranet even if
we don't have a group website?
Yes, an Intranet can be used by a group, and accessed without a club site or club domain.
In fact, it's the perfect solution for groups who don't have an existing site or willing
webmaster. Your Intranet has it's own unique, descriptive web address. And it doesn't
require a webmaster!
Can we have an Intranet with an
existing group website?
Absolutely! Just link to the intranet from your existing site. An intranet can easliy
replace the work required to manually edit and upload the club calendar, links pages,
announcements, member galleries, contact list, etc. An Intranet frees up the group
webmaster to focus on other content for the main site.
Can an individual start an niche interest
group with no current members, and invite interested people to join?
Yes, absolutely! Carefully read the
terms of service agreement before sign-up, as the usual unsavory practices and subjects
are not permitted.
Is an Intranet accessible to the
public?
Only if the designated group administrators want it to be. The administrators control who
is invited to join, which can be open, or restricted. All invited members must gain first
access with an access code, then must register and use a screen name and password to
participate. Administrators are notified of any new members, and can delete members who
have inadvertently joined.
How do group members access the
Intranet?
With their own screen name and
password, each time they log in. Your group will have a unique URL, like
http://www.your-club-name.intranets.com. This URL can be linked to from any website, added
to favorites and bookmarks, and used in email. The "front" page is the log-in
page, to prevent random public access.
Are there ads on the Intranet?
Yes. That's how they can be free. They are limited and unobtrusive to the conduct of the
Intranet. We suggest a look at our demo site.
Who can post information on the
Intranet?
That is decided by the group's designated administrators. Members my post to all
sections, or individual sections can be restricted to administrators only.
Who has access to the member
information?
Unlike "community" sites that may send members unsolicited email, only the
administrators and group members have access to the group membership roles. In an upcoming
feature upgrade, scheduled for March, individual members will also be able to select open
or unpublished participation within the group. The Model Car Hub does not have
access to your Intranet member list.
Can we place our own group banner and
link on the Intranet?
YES! - your Intranet will be easily identified as
yours, with a prominent banner or text link back to your existing site!
Can we place other banners and ad
programs on the intranet?
Not at this time. This is not permitted under the service terms and conditions.
What is the relationship between the
Model Car Hub and Intranets.com? (we still think that honesty goes a long
way!)
Intranets.com is the actual service provider for all Intranets. The Model Car Hub has paid
a substantial fee to become a designated marketing Partner with Intranets.com, per their
terms and conditions. The Model Car Hub only provides marketing
of the service and Free Intranets to interested parties. The Model Car Hub does not
own or manage the free Intranets, and does not have access or control of the
Intranets that it sponsors. Intranet owners contract directly with Intranets.com for all
Intranet service, under the Intranets.com terms of service agreement.
We at the Model Car Hub have been involved with various model car and real car clubs over the years, as well as local business groups. We have realized the great benefit of an Intranet, and are making others aware of this free opportunity to streamline their group management. We focus on model and car clubs, as we understand their needs first, but we invite anyone to create their own Intranet for use with their club, organization, business, association, hobby interest group, civic group, etc.
In return fairness of making you aware of this very useful service, we ask that you use the links provided on this page to establish your totally free Intranet.
How long does it take to get an
Intranet up and running?
About 15 minutes...maybe less!
