MODEL CAR
HUB ....The Site For Model Cars |
Bob Barnett was a true ambassador for the model car hobby. During the "Dark Ages" of the late seventies and early eighties, Bob was still building models and teaching others his tricks. His style was fifties customs, and he lead the way in constructing replicas of famous cars.
From his home in Oklahoma, Bob worked hard to help establish the Greater Salt Lake Model Car Championship and the Texas-Oklahoma Shootout, which evolved into the Southwest Challenge. He was instrumental in the formation of the Oklahoma Model Car Club, and the Metroplex Car Modeler's Association in the Dallas area.
Bob's goodwill and enthusiasm was an inspiration to many other modeler's. Without modeler's like Bob Barnett as a catalyst, the model car hobby would probably not be the same. Here at the Model Car Hub, we can thank Bob Barnett for providing the foundation for the modern-day growth of our hobby.
Here's a look at some of his more famous models...Keep in mind that these were built in the late seventies and early eighties, before aftermarket parts and resin bodies!

The Kopper Kart. Not many modelers were building replicas of famous customs when Bob built this model. He got this one right on! Pat Ganahl remembers this as an extraordinary model car, when most weren't!

The Bugarin Mercury. Notice the use of chrome trim. Remember that most custom models built in the early eighties were devoid of chrome trim, in order to facilitate paint polishing. This is a beautiful model.

The Blue Danube Buick. These all look competitive 20 years later!

Bob was there with Mark Gustavson in conceptualizing the Oakland Roadster show diorama. Built by Ken Hamilton, this 1/25 scale structure brings back the glory days of the Oakland Roadster Show in miniature. Bob's Kopper Kart and Dream Truck are on permanent display.
