Bill Geary's 250 Short WheelBase (SWB) Ferrari
We had Tim Kolankiewicz' do his Photoshop magic on a spectacular model by Maryland's Bill Geary, Jr. This is a 1/24 scale model of the 1961 Rob Walker Ferrari 250 Short WheelBase. It features a highly modified Italeri body and chassis, and a Replica's and Miniatures engine.
We hope to have Tim doing layouts like this for may more models, for you, our subscribers!

Bill's 250 started life as an Italeri 1/24 scale kit, but most of it has been re-worked in
order to get this level of detail. He rebuilt the floorboards out of sheet aluminum,
scratchbuilt the gas tank, dash, and rollbars. For greater accuracy, Bill also reformed
the roofline and rear window.
At this point, he was just getting up to speed. The he opened and hinged the doors, hood, and trunklid, as well as the gas cap! Of course, this required full detailing inside, including the trunk area, which includes a spare. The seats are resin parts from Replica's & Miniatures of Maryland, as is the wooden steering wheel with photo-etched spoke and rim. You can just see the very realistic pinhead used for the shifter knob. To finish out the chassis, Bill added all fuel and brake cables, along with a complete exhaust system.
In the engine bay, Bill tossed out the kit motor, and put a more accurate Replica's & Miniatures of Maryland resin kit in it's place. it is fully detailed, and includes correct-scale Detail Master ignition wire, which is included in the R & M kit. Notice the fuel line and throttle linkage that adds to the realism.
Bill finished this model with airbrushed Krylon Navy Blue over gray primer, and polished it out with a Micro-mesh polishing kit. He says it took him just 6 months to build.
Bill is one of Mama's Boyz (Maryland Automotie Modeler's Association) best and most prolific builders. Right now he is working on a fully-detailed '56 T-bird. We'll try to bring you photos along the way.
