Brooklin Factory Special - The Last Cameo #BRK-53
by Wayne E. Moyer

I believe that Brooklin Models' new "Factory Special", The Last Cameo, is unique in several respects. I don't ever remember Brooklin announcing a "final version" of a model before this, and certainly not as a very limited run (750 pieces) model. It's also got some new features that I've not seen before (at least not all at once) on a Brooklin 1955 Chevrolet "Cameo Carrier".
For those that might not be familiar with this fine model, Brooklin's '55 "Suburban Pickup" (to give the Cameo its correct, if rarely used name) was originally issued in the authentic off-white color with the correct red accent panel around the rear window. It was a "typical Brooklin"; i.e., smooth, very clean castings with an excellent paint job. The Cameo's special slab-sided rear fenders, wide rear window, and two-tone color scheme were all modeled accurately. Although part of the body trim was cast in relief and painted over, the wheels, bumpers, grille, lights, hood and tailgate badges, and fender flashes were all separate, bright chrome pieces. Overall lines, proportions, and all major dimensions were right on the money.
This final version is just as accurate, although its overall dark blue paint doesn't have the Cameo's characteristic contrast color panel. There's a reason for the color choice, as you'll see. This version has a very nicely done canvas bed cover that's opened at the back to display the "wood-grain" pickup bed and sides. If the photos come up OK, you should be able to see the "wrinkles" in the cover. It also has a new radio antenna, a special "plaque" in the baseplate with "The Last Cameo" engraved, and a trailer hitch. Trailer hitch? Yep, the blue body and "wood" bed just happen to match the colors of Brooklin's "Classic American Speedboat"; obviously the cameo is intended to make a perfect matched set for 750 lucky buyers.

As you can see from the photos, the dark blue body is set off by aluminum-painted wheels and a light blue interior with good upholstery detail on the seats and inner door panels. The dash is painted the same color (I think it should have been the same as the body) but has nicely done speedometer and switch details cast in relief.
While most "obsolete" Brooklin models have just been quietly phased out, this limited-run last version with some new features is really neat. Making it the perfect tow vehicle for the boat is even neater; I like it, Brooklin.
I think (don't hold me to this) the price is still $73.00 for this special version, but you can get complete details from Brasilia Press, P.O. Box 2023, Elkhart, IN 46515
(FAX: 219/262-8799). Limited-run Brooklin models don't last long and usually are snapped up by collectors. But because of the lead time of two to three months required for print media, MCH subscribers will get the first shot at this one. Don't wait!
